ELA 10: Feb 5 video portion Snow Falling on Cedars and reverse racism…

  1. We watched a short portion of the movie Snow Falling on Cedars. We had a good discussion about the value of cultural symbols to help a minority group identify with each other. When the Japanese people were considered a threat, the government went through their homes originally and took out any symbol that identified them with the “old country”. We linked this with the assimilation policy of the federal government when they took all the Aboriginal children and tried to strip them of their language and culture.
