Have a Wonderful Christmas…

Hope you have a great holiday with your family and friends. Enjoy the time off from school and be sure to get rested up. I am certainly planning on it!

We’ll see you in the New Year! What kind of resolutions are you planning on making? I don’t do the New Year’s Resolution thing but I make Themes for each year. One year my theme was ‘Bigger and Better’ where I just tried bigger projects, bigger goals, and better effort in things. Another year’s theme was ‘Stepping outside my Comfort Zone’ and I landed here in Coronach six and some hours from my family and friends! Want to try something different this year, try a theme instead of a resolution. A theme you can work with!

Best wishes.. and be safe! Marcy

ELA A10: Dec 22

  1. Students used this last ‘real’ class before their vacation begins (since this afternoon is homeroom and just ‘hanging out’) to finish watching the video called “My Left Foot”. Some students were uncomfortable watching this saying they physically were made nauseous because of the discomfort the main character seemed to be in. It was interesting to hear how sensitive they were, or maybe uncomfortable watching a story about an individual who, often times in our soceity, is so marginalized and left out because it ‘does’ make some people uncomfortable.
  2. Then they cleaned their lockers. All tidy and fresh… sure.

Have a great Christmas Grade tens. Here’s my gift of joy to you for this Holiday Season. Miss W.

  1. Students used this class to finish missing assignments. I had a mini conference with those who were in attendance and they worked on completing assignments, mostly that were half completed and still in their binders.
The other students who had all their assignments finished played cards or monopoly as a treat. Isn’t it nice to be ahead of the game and done everything? Feels good, doesn’t it? (HINT HINT!)

Grade twelves, here is my Christmas gift to you. Enjoy.

  1. There were several students already away on holidays. We used this class for students to conference with me quickly to double check whether they had missing assignments. Those who did used this class to work on those, while the others, who had dutifully completed all work when it was due, the ‘Angels’ that they are (KEENERS!! 🙂 ), had the freedom to enjoy some of the kid’s Christmas singing in the elementary wing.

    Have a great holiday!!

Here’s my gift to you. A riot! 😛  Miss W!

Just a note…

Check out the Page on the right side of the screen. There’s a new Page listed with a poll testing question. Students can go to this page and answer a multiple choice question, which ever it happens to be at the time.

This week’s question is whether you find the videos attached to blog posts are of value and use to you. What do you think of them? You can choose from four possible answers, or make up your own answer instead. Take a sec and give it a try!

  1. There were several students missing, off doing a variety of things for the turkey dinner or just standing in the halls pretending to be helping with the turkey dinner.
  2. Of the ones that were in class and marked for attendance, they were given today’s class to play ‘catch up’ on some assignments several have fallen behind on. I was pleased to see that on a day of so much energy and nearing the end of our week here, that a few were actually ferverously writing to get this assignment done and handed in. Good job to them!

  1. Students were antsy today and understandably reluctant to want to work on anything new in English. (Frankly, so was their teacher! 😉 ) Often times, by the end of the class there are videos that apply to content that we haven’t the time to watch. The students will soon be reading a novel excerpt called “My Left Foot” about the true-life story of a man born with Cerebral Palsy who only has use of his left foot. Initially, his family thought he was mentally challenged as well as physically, but he eventually found ways of communicating to show his intelligence and creative talents that had been locked inside. Our unit right now is on Challenges. This movie is a good fit! And it kept the kids settled until the turkey was served!

Watch this portion of the video where Christy writes the word “Mother” for the first time.

Now for those of you who like The Family Guy, here’s Stewie’s rendition of My Left Foot. It’s comical… so why not add it here!

  1. Students volunteered eagerly to help move tables and chairs from the rink to the school gym to prepare for today’s Formal Christmas Dinner. This is a great tradition this school has in having students make and prepare for a formal turkey meal. Everyone looks great, too, dressed so formally. Jessie Hicks even put on a suit and slicked back his hair, despite the obvious harassment he was bound to get as a result!!
