ELA B30: Feb 1 “Who are you?” What labels describe you?

What is your identity composed of? Consider what the following pictures are pointing out when considering a person’s perception of themselves?

  1. We began with a brainstorming activity trying to define for students what labels they identify as being descriptors of themselves.
  2. We then read aloud together an essay titled “Who Are You?” that questioned the impact of labels in influencing our personalities and ambitions in life.
  3. Students were asked to write a reflective paragraph (for themselves, not for marks) to consider the types of labels they would like to ‘earn’ in their future and how they could possibly go about doing that.
  4. Students were asked to read the next poem titled “The Enemy” and complete the first question along with it, which is to have the five stanzas paraphrased for tomorrow’s class.
