ELA 20: Jan 11

  1. We used about twenty minutes of this class to finish the ending of Pearl Harbour.  We followed this with a philosophical discussion about their thoughts after watching the movie. Several made the good point that watching the movie now, after having learned more about World War Two and Japan’s motivation for being involved, had a greater understanding of the events from the movie. Several students said they didn’t have anything to reference when the characters in the movie discuss leaders like Stalin or the ‘Japs’.
  2. We then regrouped and continued with our dramatic reading of the play, The Glass Menagerie. Students resumed their roles and we followed along. We are into the ending of the play where Tom brings his friend home from the warehouse, Amanda is scheming with fervour to pass Laura off to a suitable husband, and Laura is deadly afraid of encountering the same Tim O’Connor that she had a crush on once in high school.
