Hist 30: May 9 Coninuation of notes and video clip…
- Today’s class went great with students carefully following along in the notes as I read and discussed the concepts. They filled in the answers in the missing spaces of their handout and wrote several extra notes in the margins to help point out important points of the unit.
- A lot of the discussion focused on how, in Canada after the war, citizens of the country grew to believe the government was in an alliance with businesses in an effort to take advantage of Canadian workers. Farmers and labour groups eventually organized and tried to bring attention to the government, asking them to intervene in the lives of people and assist them financially during the Depression.
- Because the students did such a super job of listening, being attentive, and contributing to the discussion, we took the last ten minutes of class and watched a portion of the movie Cinderella Man with Russel Crowe. This movie is set during the Depression and the scene we watched clearly showed the difference between the living conditions of people in the 30s before and after the Depression hit.
Through this clip, also, I pointed out to the students that this is an example of Social Injustice which is the topic we are discussing in their English class.
