ELA B10: Ap 7 Play practice.. for real!

Today, students had to get serious about their play practice. They’re getting there, and I was pretty surprised when John stood in for Even and even knew his lines! (Way to go, John!) I really hope they do some practicing with their lines tonight, though, cause tomorrow’s IT, baby!!

PS: Michael is going to look great in his spaghetti-strap burgundy prom dress. It shows all his curves! 😉

ELA B10: Ap 1 Of Mice and Men – Ch 3…

  1. We discussed the questions and significant events of Chapter two yesterday. Before reading, we reminded ourselves of some of those key points and what we think the foreshadowing was possibly leading to. Then, today, we got right to the reading. We got through the majority of chapter three, the main parts being the tension mounting over Curley’s wife and poor Candy’s struggle to defend his relationship with his beloved dog. We discussed the comparison of Candy and his dog to the relationship of George and Lenny. Someone asked in class why George even bothers sticking with Lenny, since he’s so annoyed and frustrated over how much it costs him. During such a lonely time as the Depression, though, to have a companion was a pretty rare thing, especially one as loyal as Lenny is to George. This same type of bond exists between Candy and his dog – it causes him and others grief, but he’s willing to put up with it to not be alone. We’ll have to wait to see in what other ways this relationship is similar to the one between George and Lenny.
  2. I stopped reading at a certain point, before another point of action happened, so the class could have more time to practice their play.

ELA B10: Ap 2 Of Mice and Men – Ch 2 questions / significance…

  1. We read through and responded to a few handouts today. First we looked at the handout with questions focused solely on Curley’s wife. Everyone contributed responses and tried to give complete answers. We looked at the Chapter questions, then, and did the same.
  2. We talked about some of the significant events and people that were introduced in this chapter, especially Curley’s wife and Slim. I reminded students that Slim represents that author and readers, someone with the voice of reason who can understand the relationship between George and Lennie.
  3. The students used half the class, again, then to work on their play production.
