Hist 20: Dec 19

  1. Students had a work period to complete the concept map due today, finish Section 3 they began yesterday or work ahead on Section 4. I was pleased to see several students are taking more responsibility for their work in class. (Then again, I did catch two on games in the library again. Any guesses who they were? hmm?)
  2. Would you believe a few girls worked so diligently that they completed the questions all the way up to section 6? They were pretty proud to prove it too. lol

Hist 20: Dec 18

  1. Students were working on a concept map on Friday. They continued this period and were also assigned Section 3 of the WWII handout we’ve been going through. The concept map should be handed in, by the latest, Thursday. It was to include 25 major people, locations, dates, events, etc of the political scene in Europe just prior to the outbreak of war.
  2. It was basically a work period for students to catch up and keep up with assignments.

Hist 20: Dec 15

  1. Several students were missing but we did a homework check on Section 2 of the handout. (Section 2 was to be done for Wednesday, though some were still not finished.)
  2. Students were given a Concep Map assignment. They need to list 25 concepts (names, dates, countries, agreements, etc) and connect them together using Transitional Phrases. The students have done a few concept maps in my classes in the past. While it may take a while to begin a map, and it may be frustrating, its learning value is immense. You need to really understand your topic to correctly make a concept map. Their focus is to map out the ‘political scene’ (or mood) prior to the initial outbreak of World War Two in Europe. (They’ve just reviewed this information yesterday in their review of Section one of their handout.)

Hist 20: Dec 14

  1. Students were given a handout reviewing the chapter notes on the scene in Europe just prior to World War II. We read through the handout and discussed the motives for different countries being on differing allied sides.
  2. We read through the questions and answers for section one together on the overheads.
  3. We finished with watching a few of the video clips on yesterdays History 20 post.

Hist 20: Dec 13

  1. Students watched the first half of a video detailing World War II’s affects within Canada, focusing on the issues of conscription of Canadian soldiers, the treatment of the Japanese people in Canada after Pearl Harbor, and other government issues.

Check out this youtube video on Nazi expectations during World War II.

Here is an interesting student project depicting the war.

This is a great video using pictures from key locations of World War Two along with Google Earth to show their locations geographically. Someone did a great job with this!

Hist 20: Dec 12

  1. Several students were missing today so students continued on to Section 2.
  2. They are to have the questions completed for tomorrow’s class when we will discuss the answers for both Section 1 and 2.

Hist 20: Dec 11

  1. Their writing assignment, based on their viewing of the movie Uprising, was due to be handed in today.
  2. Students were given a chapter handout and told to have it read and the chapter questions (1-7) done for tomorrow’s class.
